What are body composition, metabolic & cardiovascular function?

This combination of assessments is perfect to better understand your daily calorie needs and how it plays a part in your body composition. This is ideal for those wishing to optimises weight loss, or maintain a healthy body composition. Understanding metabolism and body composition is of use for a wide range of athletes as well as those within to better control excess weight. Understanding your individual metabolic rate, your daily macronutrient usage in conjunction with your lipid profile and blood pressure, is one of the most important aspects in the control of weight related disorders such as metabolic syndome. See Dr Simon Fryers physical activity and health Research Profile here and call him for a discussion of your assessment needs.

This combination of assessments is perfect to better understand your daily calorie needs and how it plays a part in your body composition and how this affects your health. This is ideal for those wishing to optimise weight loss or maintain a healthy body composition.

For this assessment we ask that you attend the centre in the morning following an overnight fast. Following a 10-15 minute consultation to allow us to better understand your goals, we will fit you with a mask and ask you to lay supine on a test bed for 20 minutes. During this time we will assess your inspired and expired oxygen and carbon dioxide. From these we can determine metabolic rate, daily kcals and macronutrient utilisation. Following this we will assess your blood pressures and screen for heart arrhythmias before using a capillary blood sample to determine your lipid profile including cholesterols HDL, LDL, Ratios as well as triglycerides.

Following your resting metabolic rate assessment and bloods we will offer you a small snack. This will be followed by the body composition assessment. Using the ISAK (International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry) method of assessing subcutaneous body fat in 7 locations, we are able to accurately and reliably determine body fat percentage. This will be conducted using skinfold callipers.
